Mr. T’s Take…

January 22, 2016

One of the things I have quickly learned about Silverwood School is how much we ask of parents and families.  I want you to know that everything you do for our school (both in monetary contributions and volunteer time) is greatly appreciated by me and the entire staff.  In fact, without your help, our school could not exist.

Now that the Annual Fund is coming to a close, a devoted group of parents and the staff are working diligently to put together a “Don’t Want to Miss” auction named The Beach Ball, and we are asking for your help again.  This doesn’t require a cash donation, but having families doing some legwork to assist our auction team.  In your child’s backpack today, you will receive a letter and brochure for getting sponsorships for our auction.  This is more about “Who you know” and asking them to sponsor our school.  For example, if you are in good terms with a local company and have given them a lot of business, you could ask them to sponsor our school.  Sponsorships start as low as $100 (see brochure for all levels of giving).  I called Kitsap Golf and Country Club (since we are using their club house as our auction venue) and they are willing to sponsor our school at the Silver Level.   Getting a sponsor for our school is a great way to help us financially, and all it takes is a question to a business owner or manager you know.

Another way you can help our school is with procurement – helping us secure quality items for our auction.  These contributions may come from you, for example helping The Barn, The Treehouse and The Lodge create a themed basket for the auction, or again asking a local business for a donation.  I know an artist on Bainbridge Island and I asked for a piece of his artwork.  Although he is still considering the request, I have a good shot at getting something from him.  We sent procurement forms home in December and an email reminder (with forms attached) this week.

I can’t thank you enough for all you do to help Silverwood School.  I feel very fortunate to work with such a dedicated staff and group of parents who work so hard to give our students a meaningful education every day.

Out of the mouth of babes…
