Our Values

Silverwood was founded on the belief that children thrive when they are motivated by curiosity, spend significant time outdoors, engage the world with their hands, build teamwork through project-based learning, and are nurtured by compassionate, caring teachers. We believe our small class sizes and large, wooded campus provide the backdrop for these core values. At Silverwood, our Mission and Belief Statements guide our work today and our plans for the future.

School History

Silverwood was founded in 1984 when a group of parents from The Farm Montessori dreamed of continuing the educational experience they received in their preschool Montessori experience. After a few moves, in 2001, Silverwood School arrived at its current campus - an old farm on Central Valley Road Northwest. Last year, Silverwood’s Board of Trustees joined with its Head of School to authorize expanding the grade offerings to include 7th and 8th grade.

The Teaching Team

At the heart of the Silverwood experience are our amazing teachers and staff. Inside the classroom, outside in the woods, on field trips or overnights, the dedicated professionals at Silverwood care deeply for the children on campus. Students spend their days at Silverwood surrounded by teachers who love teaching. Our small class sizes allow them to from stronger, individualized bonds with their students. Our teachers have a wide array of backgrounds - and they bring those experiences with them to class every day.

Silverwood Families Are…

…the support structure underpinning our school. Parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, friends and neighbors are all part of our school community. Some families have moved here with the Navy, others have lived in Kitsap for generations. We share a passion for our children and a commitment to their education. When we gather, we are happy to see each other. Friendships that start between students blossom into closely-connected families that stay together even after outgrowing the school. Learn about our community and meet some of the families of Silverwood.

Board of Trustees

Silverwood’s governing body, the Board of Trustees is comprised of current and former parents who volunteer their time to safeguard Silverwood’s future. Their meetings are open to the public and listed on our events calendar. The Board usually meets monthly for 2 hours in the evenings.

Part of Something Bigger

Silverwood is a proud partner with many community organizations. Engaging our community, locally and regionally, is part of Silverwood’s ongoing desire to live into our mission: to cultivate compassionate citizens. In addition, Silverwood is a member in associations with whom we share a dedication to advancing independent education.
